Author Rights

Authors publishing in the Research on Engineering Structures and Materials (RESM) retain the following rights (the “Author Rights”):

1. Proprietary Rights

Authors retain all proprietary rights other than copyright, such as patent rights.

2. Use on Author or Employer Websites

Authors have the right to use the RESM-prepared version of the article, without revision or modification, on their personal or employer’s website.

3. Educational and Research Use

Authors may make copies of all or part of the article, including the RESM-prepared version, without revision or modification, for personal, educational, or research purposes. If the RESM-prepared version is used in a publication or product that charges a fee, written permission from RESM must be obtained.

4. Creation of Derivative Works

Authors may create derivative works from the article, provided the following conditions are met:

  • At least one author of the derived work is an author of the original article.
  • The derivative work contains at least 30% new material not covered by RESM copyright.
  • The derivative work includes no more than 50% of the original article’s text (including equations).

If these conditions are satisfied, copyright in the derivative work rests with its authors. If the conditions are not met, explicit permission from RESM must be obtained. These rights do not limit RESM (or its successors and assigns) from exercising its own copyright in the original article.

All copies or derivatives must include appropriate bibliographic citations and a notice of RESM’s copyright.

These rights ensure authors can leverage their work while maintaining RESM’s commitment to ethical and rigorous academic publishing.
