Fee Policy
Sustaining Open Access Through Author Contributions
For over a decade, Research on Engineering Structures and Materials (RESM) has been committed to providing a fully open-access platform without any publication charges for authors. This was made possible through financial support from the MIM Research Group, a team of scholars who voluntarily contributed a portion of their salaries to sustain free publishing for the sake of scientific progress.
However, with the increasing number of submissions and the expansion of the journal, this model has become unsustainable. To continue providing open access to high-quality research, RESM now requires an Open Access Charge (OAC) for each accepted article. This fee ensures that all published research remains immediately and permanently accessible to the global scientific community.
Open Access Charge (OAC)
- Base Fee: 400 EUR
- Discounts: Up to 75% based on paper quality, type and other related factors
- Final Charge: 100 – 400 EUR per article, determined after the initial evaluation
- Approval Process: Authors will receive an email with the precise fee after the initial evaluation and asked to approve it before proceeding
We strive to provide the highest possible discounts to minimize the financial burden on authors while maintaining the sustainability of the journal.
Why Is There an Open Access Charge ?
The OAC is not for profit but is necessary to sustain open-access publishing and cover essential journal operations, including:
- Personnel Cost: RESM employs professionals from bachelor’s to PhD levels to ensure high-quality publication services. The OAC only compensates a fraction of their salaries.
- Website Maintenance & Digital Services: The journal incurs costs for hosting, security, DOI assignment, and digital enhancements.
- Operational Expenses: This includes editorial tools, indexing services, administrative costs, and continuous improvements for both authors and readers.
Despite the introduction of fees, only around 40% of the specified OAC is actually collected due to discounts, taxes, and other financial expenditures.
We are committed to keeping OACs as low as possible and ensuring that the journal remains open access for readers worldwide.
