Special Issue for Insights from the International Conference 6ICGE

We are proud to announce that Research on Engineering Structures and Materials (RESM) has established a formal collaboration with the Sixth International Conference on Geotechnical Engineering – Iraq (6ICGE-Iraq 2026) to publish a curated selection of outstanding research papers in a forthcoming special issue.

About 6ICGE-Iraq 2026

The 6ICGE-Iraq 2026 will be held in Baghdad, Iraq, from October 7–8, 2026. This prestigious scientific gathering serves as a vital platform for researchers, engineers, and industry professionals to exchange the latest advancements across various engineering disciplines. The conference is jointly organized by a distinguished consortium:

  • Iraqi Scientific Geotechnical Society (ISGS)

  • University of Baghdad

  • Koya University

  • Komar University of Science and Technology

  • Moscow State University of Civil Engineering

The primary goal of the conference is to strengthen international collaboration between Iraq and the global scientific community, fostering innovation and sustainable solutions in modern engineering.

Conference Themes

The special issue will consider high-quality submissions presented at the conference covering the following themes:

  1. Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (SMGE)

  2. Structural Engineering and Mechanics (SEM)

  3. Construction and Sustainability (CS)

  4. Urban Development and Architecture (UDA)

  5. Water Resources Engineering and Environment (WREE)

  6. Mechanical Engineering and Energy Sciences (MEES)

The Iraqi Scientific Geotechnical Society (ISGS)

A key partner in this collaboration, the ISGS was established in 2001 and stands as Iraq’s leading professional body in geotechnical engineering. As an active member of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), ISGS has been a driving force in promoting research excellence and technical innovation within Iraq’s engineering community for over two decades.

Guest Editorial

We are honored to have Prof. Dr. Mahdi Karkush from the University of Baghdad as the Guest Editor for this special issue. Prof. Karkush will oversee the editorial process for the selected papers, ensuring they meet the rigorous scientific standards and peer-review requirements of RESM.

Next Steps and Timeline

Authors of selected high-quality papers from the conference will be invited to submit extended versions of their work to RESM. Please note that the detailed special issue timeline and planning will be announced on our website once the submission and review schedule are finalized.
