Abstract

In this study, Ag@graphene nanocomposites were synthesized in order to examine their structure and optical behavior. For preparation of nanocomposites, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were chemically reduced using sodium borohydride. Then, they were integrated with graphene through ultrasonic-assisted mixing. After synthesis of Ag@graphene nanocomposites, they were structurally assessed using various characterization analyses, consisting of X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDXS), and Raman spectroscopy. Moreover, the optical behavior of prepared nanocomposites was investigated with UV-Visible absorption and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The results obtained from characterization analyses confirmed that AgNPs were successfully incorporated within the graphene sheets. In addition, the Ag@graphene nanocomposites revealed UV-Visible absorption peaks with higher intensity as well as higher extinction coefficient compared to their individual components, implying that compositing AgNPs with graphene improved their optical properties. These promising optical characteristics could provide a basis for future investigations into the employment of Ag@graphene nanocomposites for different applications, including photocatalysis and optoelectronic.
